History of the Museum of Nové Strašecí

The beginnings of museum activities are related to the Readers club of Nové Strašecí and collecting of material for the Ethnographic Exhibition in Prague in 1895. Museum was created in 1883, when the committee for the establishment of a regional museum in Nové Strašecí was founded. Museum´s rules were approved in 1894. Exposition was opened for the public in one of the town hall rooms a year later and first museum lecture was hold at the same time. In the year 1928 museum collections moved into the new building of the district office, where the museum has reserved two rooms. After 1940 the museum activities grew up, the collections were moved to the former school building next to the church (here were available for the public since 1943), which is used to this days. After splitting of the district of Nové Stracecí into two parts (Rakovník and Kladno) in 1960, the museum became a municipal institutions. In 1984, it was reincorporated as a branch of the museum in Rakovník (today Museum T. G. M. Rakovník).
